Artist Bio:
Alex Stangl - The Sherbrooke Sessions
After the snow left, I found myself spending my days sitting on the porch, reading and watching the world happen around me and pondering.
I've got a little record company and an orange crate full of 1500++ songs I've been writing and recording since 1978 - several of which have been covered by other artists.
Despite mental detours here and there through the years, I've had a good long run with this songwriting stuff.
My songs are the epic journal of how I arrived on my porch. Drop in. Have a cup of tea.
Thanks for listening - Alex Stangl

Make A Cup Of Tea
I woke up and looked around
For a long time I was gone
What to do with all this now
Like the pope I kiss the ground
Thank the universe I'm free
Heat the kettle, make a cup of tea
Bit an apple, dropped the seed
Heard some voices in the breeze
I could recognize the spark
Those two lovers in the park
I've been tearing round for years
Searching for that something real
In the end I should have known
It's very real to be alone |

When You're Not Around
Heat lightening in the sky
A storm comes pounding in
Messing up my fortress
Just the way you did
On my kitchen table there's a coffee stain
Where you were sitting down
I gotta say it's haunting me
There's way too much of you
And that's when you're not around
When you're not around
All is calm and there's no rush
When you're not around
It's simple and it's not
It's dark, I'm reaching somewhere
But I know I'm falling off
I see the warning signs
But there's too much to love
Well all your last impressions
They remain there in the drive
I might have a chain link fence
But you get through just fine
It's yes, and no, and I'm not sure
It's hard to find that line
I'm just a word or two away
From falling off the edge
Another time
Melodies consume the atmosphere
And it's been several days since you were here

The Longing That I Love
I like the simple things
So I can make them complicated
Somehow I find comfort
Only when my heart is aching
So go ahead and play your games
And may play along
I don't really want you
It's the longing that I love
Once upon a time
I met someone far away
That woman turned me inside out
I'd say my life was changed
All we had was what we had
But that was good enough
I came back, I was all messed up
But it's the longing that I love
So you might think you know me
Got me nicely figured out
I'm an actor, on a roll
It's a script I'm reading from
You got my attention
And you might be in my thoughts
It's when you leave, not when you're here
It's the longing that I love

Through The Flames
You wanna do your thing
Well do it over there
I'm just the diamond cutter
Who's not supposed to care
You wanna light a candle
Just to give the room a glow
I'm not supposed to look
Then you lightly toss your hair
There's a tatoo on your neck
That goes down to who knows where
I'm not gonna speculate
I'm not even gonna guess
You've looked into my eyes
All the thoughts that you inspire
I was coasting, life was fine
Then came the moment you arrived
You can sit there and deny it
But you set this place on fire
Now I'm walking through the flames
But I don't mind
We went mining and found some diamonds
We design them and make some rings
Make them sparkle, make them shiny
The rest can wonder, let them think
The future that you dream about
Is in the moment now
I suppose that's why I'm here
To help you figure out
The verticle's illusion
Life, that is the path we're on
There is beauty, there is splendor
And there's a limit, understood
It's like the dead end I see coming
Still I want to drive right through

Can't Complain
October has arrived
It's too cold to smoke outside
Got an ashtray, it's my TV dinner tray
Got a situation messing up my days
But she's a beauty, so I really can't complain
All my life that's how it's been
Oh that love just does me in
You think someday I'll learn from my mistakes
I give her what I got until I'm drained
But she's a beauty so I really can't complain
I guess it's what I needed
But the end games pretty clear
She brings me life
And still she's killing me
October has arrived
I made it through a year alright
But I get that feeling something's gonna break
For the better, for the worse, it's hard to say
But she's a beauty so I really can't complain
