BigEyedMuse
BigEyedMuse is a collection of songs that were originally meant for the web. The recordings were made quickly and often very soon after the song was written. In deciding to not re-record these, I wanted to keep the initial raw and searching energy. With that comes the raw mistakes and the hiss and the street noise. It encompasses several years of recordings and even more years of songs (one of which is celebrating its 20th birthday with this release). That said, the collection is not a best of as such. It is more a representation of the older songs I am choosing to play live at the moment. One main criterion for inclusion was that each tune had to be live, just acoustic and voice. Any songs recorded with other instruments were excluded. Perhaps those lost tunes will be ripe for re-recording at some point. Perhaps live. The collection is certainly weighted to the last of the Chicago years, 2005 and 2006. |

NoseFloss
NoseFloss is a collection of acoustic and vocal tunes that represent 2007 so far. About half of the tunes were written since the move to Virginia. The history of the Burg tends to inform several of the songs: warn wood shingles, tin roofs, ghost railroads and Burnside and his Blues and Grays. And the amazing, haunting, endless dark at night, away from the shores of Lake Michigan. This is more of an album of guitar work than BigEyedMuse. The guitar drives many of the tunes and is solo in 4 of them. I choose this point as a cut off for the collection because the style is changing again, making a little more room for the voice now that I have discovered that I do, in fact, enjoy singing. (Just a note: the album titles have nothing to do with the music. They are the original working titles of the artwork that is used as cover art. The artwork has been previously used on the web with the very creative titles of: Songs 2005, Songs 2006, etc) |
