Artist: david elias
David Elias is an original singer/songwriter who is hard to characterize but easy to listen to. Often compared to many powerful songwriters and lyricists including John Prine, Guy Clark, early Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and Paul Simon, he is not fixed on any single genre of music but incorporates bits of many styles into his presentations which range from stark to downright raucous. In addition to being repeatedly recognized for his songwriting and live performance, David has been awarded as a pioneer for the superior quality of his hi-res recordings, in both stereo and 5.1 surround sound.

His 7 different CD's and SA-CD's are online at CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon and elsewhere.

highway man
- david elias

highway man lay down
in your field of dreams
when your road is done
you can lean on me

it was the rhythm of the rain
that made you run towards the evening sun
one or another midnight train
over red iron

highway man lay down
in your field of dreams...

***

walking man come on
to your water dream
when your road is gone
you can lean on me

we'll take the low road side
before the evening tide
when the river's high
can you remember how the red wine
made you cry
singing 'the water's wide'

walking man come on
to your water dream....

***

sunshine man rave on
in your cosmic dream
starry roads roll on
you can lean on me

through those crystal streams
of brokedown palace dreams
down those harvest basement stairs
your china doll might have survived it all
i saw her standing there

sunshine man rave on
in your cosmic dream....

***

roadside man dream on
there's no deeper blue
when the world is gone
i will lean on you

i don't have to know where the road will go
just give me wheels on fire
i'm missing you what do i have to do
to hear the higher choir

roadside man dream on
there's no deeper blue...

help yourself
- d. elias

morning comes
before the sun
when i hear that song
i better help myself
help myself

reflections smile
behind the miles
when i hear that song
i better help myself
help myself

lord you know
it comes and goes
when i feel that song
i better help myself
help myself

ain't no one knows
their lonely lows
when you hear that song
you better help yourself
help yourself
help yourself
help yourself

i broke the bank
the bank broke me
brothers broke as we can be
i broke the bank
the bank broke me
breaking breaking breaking free
breaking breaking breaking

i rode the train
the train rode me
up and down indifferently
i rode the train
the train rode me
riding riding set me free
riding riding set me free

i changed my mind
my mind changed me
up and down how can this be
i changed my mind
my mind changed me
changing changing changing free
changing changing changing

my tears for you
your tears for me
tears we share in sympathy
my tears for you
your tears for me
crying crying weeping
crying crying weeping

There's something about you that I don't know
Something about those places we go
The window it's open to the valley below
There's something about you that I really don't know
Something about you that I just don't know

I look in my head for a part of last summer
Search in my heart for a piece of the pie
You and I play the part of one different drummer
The music is clear as the sun in the sky
The music is clear as the sun in the sky

When grandma appears as clear as a crow
I feel like I'm with somebody I really know
The garden it's green wherever you go
There's something about you that I really don't know
Something about you that I just don't know

Time takes a detour and restlessness waits
We're walking outside of the city's main gates
We're seeing the world in an alternate state
It's you and me baby the rest can just wait
It's you and me baby the rest can just wait

There's something about you that I don't know
Something about those places we go
The window it's open to the valley below
There's something about you I really don't know
Something about you that I just don't know...

I don't have any answers
And I don't have any guns
I keep my eye on the window
I pray for daylight to come

And I own nothing that's holy
Except ideas yet to come
I keep my eye on the window
I keep my eye on the sun

There's water under the ocean
It feels the weight of the world
And me I feel no emotion

The window is my true religion
It shows me part of that is there
The light and darkness share the vision
And neither cares how long I stare
And neither cares how long I stare
And neither cares how long

I think this will always be my favorite David Elias song, because of the transcendent experience I had when I first heard it there in my quiet, dark room alone. Such an amazing CD. Such an amazing performer and songwriter. Thank you, David, for the wonderful music!
