Artist: Lizzie Nunnery
Lizzie Nunnery is a 25 year old singer songwriter. Following the self release of her EP, “Monkeys and Devils,” in 2006 she has played a host of venues around the UK including supporting J.D Souther, Little Feat, Jim Moray and Tobias Froberg. She has made several appearances on BBC Radio, including a live performance on BBC Radio 3. She was the BBC Liverpool unsigned artist of the month for November 2006 and is also an award winning playwright, with her most recent stage play “Intemperance,” receiving a 5 star review in the Guardian. She is currently under commission to BBC Radio 4 to write a play with songs entitled “The Singer”. Her eagerly anticipated second EP, "Hungry" was released in March, 2008.

"It is Lizzie’s enchanting voice that really draws you in to her sublime world; a fragile tremolo that makes you want to sit close and listen to her stories...It is the title track that impresses the most, with a catchy refrain and dark, menacing accompaniment. This track could well be one of the best songs you’ll hear all year."
Mike Wilson, Folking.com on "Hungry EP"

“Nu-folk with a knack for a melody and some quirky lyrics. Lizzie is unique enough to stand out from the crowd but accessible enough to get her noticed on a wider scale. Clever songs, beautifully recorded, perfectly delivered. Who says you can’t have it all?”
Liverpool.com Magazine on “Hungry” EP

“It’s a performance that begins to reveal some of the best songs of the evening, as well as some innovative arrangements. Lizzie interlaces her solid strums with sublime, picked passages, mixing in vocals which sit somewhere not too far away from Kate Bush.”
Manchestermusic.co.uk

“Hugely impressive lyrics and delicate acoustic backing make Monkeys and Devils a strong disc, but it's her voice that really stands out. These are mature and fully rounded songs and the whole production and feel of the disc is much more than you’d expect from a debut release. She’s certainly a real talent, and one to watch for the future

Twisting on the Breeze

I wasn’t watching the sky
For some space ship to come in
I wasn’t falling in love
I was just watching my feet
I wasn’t wanting for much
I was just waiting to leave
With hat nor coat nor hand to hold
Twisting on the breeze.

I wasn’t toeing the line
I was just drawing my dreams
In biro and tippex pen
On the inside of my pencil tin
I wasn’t wanting for much just
All I could not but need
With hat nor coat nor hand to hold
Twisting on the breeze.

I took the long way round
I know.
With map, nor rope, nor helpful notes
I got home.

I turned to my mother and said
I was just made this way.
You can’t expect usual things
From the unusual thing that you raised.
I wasn’t wanting for much
I was just digging
I was just digging
I was just digging.

If you do not know where your
Friend has been.
I was out there, all alone
Twisting on the breeze,
I was taking the long way home
Twisting on the breeze.

Moving With the Moon

Did childhood feel like that
Running at walls falling on thorns
Ever chancing
Your starlight in the gloom?
Eyes mirrors of mine
Say why don’t you see some time
We’re not dancing
We’re moving with the moon
Never did say what you gave
Were all the things I couldn’t choose.
Never did say that you saved me, stopped me
Fighting the tide
Now I’m moving with the moon.

Chorus:
And if I have to believe
That your light isn’t real
Then I don’t wanna see
Truth anymore.
‘Cause you say it’s not about
What you win fake or fail
Take or lose today.
It’s the hope you led
The smile’s you said
The sound you spread along the way.
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey

Did it seem to you the star you were born under
Was more like a hole in the sky?
‘Cause the vision you were given
Was too bright from the start
Your sight was so clear it hurt your eyes.
You don’t have to say that it saved you,
‘Cause you are more than you have.
There’s nothing in your pocket
But the sky is full of angels
And they see you
Moving with the moon.

We’re not dancing
We’re moving with the moon.
We’re not dancing
Na-ah.

Chorus
